The UP Diliman Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business (VSB) won the top prize at the 24th Intercollegiate Finance Competition (24th ICFC).
The VSB bested 98 other schools and universities in the competition covering questions on corporate finance, investments, financial accounting reporting, and portfolio management, among others.
The VSB team was composed of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accountancy students Brian Dominic C. Dela Cruz, Mary Francine G. Estoesta, Marco Antonio P. Paez, Dominic O. Segunial, and Nemesio Justine dF. Torres Jr. They were coached by John Lester H. Aratea, an assistant professor at the VSB Department of Accounting and Finance.
A VSB Facebook post states “this year’s win brings VSB’s total to 14 championships out of the 24 times the competition has been held.”
The ICFC is organized by the Financial Executives Institute Philippines (FINEX) in partnership with the JP Morgan Chase & Co.
According to the FINEX website (https://finex.org.ph/jfinex/), ICFC is an annual academic competition for banking, finance, and economics, and is the longest-running finance competition in the country, supporting the development of financial literacy among college students.
The 24th ICFC was held on Nov. 22 at the De La Salle University in Manila.—With a report from the VSB
