The UP Fighting Maroons Men’s Basketball Team (UPMBT) repulsed the final push of the National University (NU) Bulldogs, 78-74, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 88 men’s basketball tournament on Oct. 22 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Harold Alarcon waxed hot and scored 13 points in the payoff period, including four crucial free throws in the final stretch of the game when the Bulldogs were inching closer and narrowing down the UP Fighting Maroons’ lead. Alarcon, named best player of the game, led the UPMBT with 24 points, four assists, and three rebounds

The UPMBT was in control in the early goings of the game, establishing as much as an 18-point lead in the first frame. The Bulldogs, however, refused to give up. Behind Jake Figueroa, NU went on a roll to come within two points, 55-57, at the 8:49 mark of the final canto.
Alarcon then carried the UPMBT’s scoring with his various offensive arsenals to give the UP Fighting Maroons their fifth win in eight outings.
Alarcon’s great game was backstopped by Rey Remogat, who had 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Reyland Torres contributed 10 points and five rebounds, and a steal.
UPMBT’s next game is against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on Oct. 26, 4:30 p.m. at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
