UP Diliman (UPD) honored the exceptional performances of its administrative staff and REPS (research, extension, and professional staff) at the 2025 Parangal at Pagkilala para sa mga Kawani ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas held on May 8 at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium.
This ceremony conferred the GALING UPD Awards: GALING, UTAK, PUSO, and DANGAL. This year, eight groups and 14 individuals were recognized.
The GALING Award (Pagkilala sa Pinakamahuhusay na Yunit/Pangkat) was given to eight groups: the College of Home Economics (CHE) Library, the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy Ethics Review Board, the National Institute of Geological Sciences Motorpool, the CHE Office of Research and Publications, the Property Utilization Section of the Supply and Property Management Office, the Quality Assurance Office, the Great Infohunt Corps of the University Library, and the School of Library and Information Studies Library.

According to the guidelines from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administration (OVCA), these groups met the GALING Award criteria by making “outstanding contributions resulting in a significant impact on the efficient delivery of services, evidenced by increased client’s satisfaction of the services provided by their unit.”
Meanwhile, this year’s UTAK Award (Pagkilala sa Natatanging Inobasyon at Tuklas Tipid) recipients were Roderico R. Amis, an administrative assistant at the School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SOLAIR), and Anthony Guiller E. Urbano, a science education specialist at the National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (NISMED). Both were recognized for introducing new systems or process in their workplace that enhanced their unit’s service efficiency.

Amis was cited for his contributions to SOLAIR operations, particularly his creation of an activity venue requests and coordination system, and in maintaining the various SOLAIR audio equipment and vehicles—efforts beyond the scope of his work as an administrative assistant.
Urbano was cited for his successful repair and continued maintenance of NISMED’s 40-centimeter reflecting telescope, a key instrument in the popular UP NISMED Stargazing Program.
Six individuals received the PUSO Award (Inspirasyon at Husay Kagalingan): Maria Teresa M. Bal, a student records evaluator at the Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business; Sonia N. Lumbre, a meter reader at the Private Automated Branch Exchange–Utilities Management; Arche P. Quijano, a school credits evaluator at the Office of Scholarships and Grants of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA); Edgardo R. Rico, a household attendant at the CHE; Alex C. Sabulao, an administrative aide at the OVCSA; and Rosalie P. Sebastian, an administrative assistant at the SOLAIR.

They were honored for their inspiring stories demonstrating “excellent levels of dedication, resilience, and determination in their line of work” that had a positive impact on their colleagues.
Six individuals received the DANGAL ng UPD Award (Pagkilala para sa Pinakamahuhusay na Kawani): Rowell B. Alveniz, administrative aide at the College of Education; Nuranio P. Berunio, precision instrument technician at NISMED; Christopher C. Recipients of the DANGAL ng UPD are automatic nominees for the Gawad Tsanselor para sa Natatanging Kawani. The ceremony also awarded Gloria C. Evangelista of the College of Arts and Letters and Danilo F. Gayagoy of the CS with the Gawad Paglilingkod.
