Three faculty members and a REPS (research, extension, and professional staff) of the UP Diliman (UPD) College of Engineering (COE) were recognized for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields during the 12th Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA) Excellence and Distinction Awards (PFPA EXCeeD Awards 2025) held last Feb. 22 at UP Bahay ng Alumni.
Alberto V. Amorsolo, PhD, professor emeritus at the UP Department of Mining, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering was honored with a distinction award under the academe category; Mark Albert H. Zarco, PhD, a professor at the Institute of Civil Engineering and COE Head Librarian Sharon Maria Esposo-Betan, were given distinction awards under the applied research and development category.

Established in 2005, the PFPA Excellence and Distinction Awards recognizes Filipino professionals “who have distinguished themselves through excellence in, but not limited to, the fields of the Academe, Applied Research Development, Private/Specialized Practice, Government Service, Global Filipino Practice and Service, and Professional Association Development to demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct, ideals, and workmanship.”
The PFPA is the umbrella organization of all professional associations in the Philippines.
In a Facebook post on Feb. 22, the college congratulated the awardees and stated “their unwavering dedication to excellence in education, research, and professional service continues to inspire the COE community. We celebrate your success and commitment to pushing the boundaries of engineering and innovation.”
