13 awarded Gawad Tsanselor 2020
Twelve individuals and an extension program received the Gawad Tsanselor, UP Diliman’s highest distinction for exemplary performance in various categories in 2019, in ceremonies held Feb. 28 at the University Theater Main Hall Stage.
The winners comprised one extension program, three students, four administrative staff, one Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS) and four faculty members.

UP wins over UE
(March 9)-The UP Women’s Volleyball Team barged into the wining column after dismantling the University of the East (UE), 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25 -17 in the UAAP Volleyball Tournament on Mar. 7 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena (MOA).
UP’s dynamic duo Isabel Molde and Diana Mae Carlos led the Fighting Maroons to take the first two sets. The Lady Warriors, however, snatched the third set behind the heroics and superb plays of Mean Mendrez and Janine Lana.

Retirado 2020 pays tribute to service
(MAR. 6)—The University paid tribute to 109 of its retirees at the 2020 Parangal sa mga Retirado at 2019 Gawad Paglilingkod held Feb. 27 at the UP Film Center (UPFC).
Retirado. Of the retirees, 65 were administrative personnel, 35 were faculty and 9 were from the Research, Extension and Professional Staff (REPS). Each retiree was given a UP medallion, a certificate and plaque.

UP DNA Lab receives NRCP awards
(Mar. 5)—The UP Natural Sciences Research Institute-DNA Analysis Laboratory (DAL), has been chosen as the 2019 Outstanding Institution Awardee (Cluster III) by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP).
The award, Instituted in 2012, is given “to honor outstanding institutions in recognition of their dedicated support and significant contribution to the growth and development of basic sciences, humanities and the arts in the Philippines.”

FQS at Himigsikan 2020
(MAR. 4)—Sunday evenings at the UP Carillon Plaza are usually quiet, with only the sound of the nocturnal wildlife and the rhythmic thump of joggers’ feet pounding the pavement to be heard.
However on Feb. 22 the sounds of music from the First Quarter Storm (FQS) filled the space for the annual Himigsikan concert. FQS was a period of civil unrest during the first quarter of 1970 involving protest actions against the abuses during former president Ferdinand Marcos’ administration.

(MAR. 2)— The UP Men’s Judo Team’s (UPMJT) hard training paid off as they ended the season with a podium finish after winning second place at the UAAP Season 82 Judo Championships held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City from Feb. 29 to Mar. 1.

Nemenzo is 11th UPD Chancellor
(MAR. 2)—In a simple ceremony at the Quezon Hall steps that coincided with UP Diliman’s (UPD) flag raising, the campus witnessed the changing of its guards as Prof. Fidel R. Nemenzo, DSc took his oath of office as the UPD’s 11th Chancellor on Mar. 2.
He was sworn to office by UP President Danilo L. Concepcion and handed over the UPD Chancellor Medallion by Professor Emeritus Michael L. Tan, DVM, PhD and UPD 10th Chancellor.
