UPD celebrates life
(OCT.23)—The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) faculty, staff and students celebrated life in a series of activities held at the UP Sunken Garden, Academic Oval and Main Library, Sept. 27 in “Celebrate Life @ UPD.”
The event sought to veer away from the concept of suicide prevention towards a proactive perspective, highlighting the positive aspects of mental health.

UP Law student wins Brilliance award
(Dec. 14) ̶ UP Law student Chad Patrick Osorio was one of the four Award of Brilliance recipients in the United Nations University’s recently concluded 33rd Eisaku Sato Essay Contest.
The Eisaku Sato Essay Contest is an international competition established in memory of former Prime Minister of Japan Eisaku Sato. The contest opened in 1980 and is held annually except from 1986 to 1989.
This year’s theme centered on the world’s rapid demographic changes, referred as “demographic tsunami,” and United Nations’ potential role in addressing this world phenomenon.

SocMed redefines news
The shift towards social media (SocMed) as the main platform for discussion and information has led to a redefinition of news. This was the premise of the lecture “Social Media as Site of News and Political Discourse” by Prof. Clarissa C. David, PhD, at the Pi Gamma Mu Inaugural National Conference on Oct. 13 at the NISMED auditorium.

Concert caps College of Music’s 100th year celebration
(OCT. 2) — Capping its centennial anniversary celebration, the UP College of Music staged a full house closing concert featuring its faculty and resident performing groups on Sept. 15 at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium.

Members of national minorities banded together for a night of music, culture and protest on Sept. 18 as the Office of the Chancellor presented “Hugpungan 2017,” a two-part concert special held at the University Theater as part of “Lakbayan 2017: Kampuhan sa Diliman.”
