UPD Month 2016 celebrates 4 National Artists

(February 3)—UP Diliman Month 2016 opened with great fanfare on Feb. 1, 6 p.m. at the University Amphitheater with a ceremony inspired by a Filipino theatre tradition, the Bodabil. “Panahon ng Luwalhati,” the month-long festivities pay tribute to the lives and works of four National Artists: Manuel Conde (Film), Lamberto Avellana (Film and Theatre), Severino Montano (Theatre) and NVM Gonzalez (Literature). Rosa Maria Icagasi, 77

(Jan. 29)—Professor Rosa Maria Icagasi, retired College of Arts and Letters (CAL) professor, passed away on Jan. 21. She was 77. Icagasi was a faculty member at CAL’s Department of Art Studies when she retired on June 16, 2003. A poet, a painter and a composer, Icagasi taught in UP Los Banos; UP Manila, where she served as Division of Humanities Chair (1973-1974) and UP Diliman, where she served as Assistant to the CAL dean (1986-1987). UP Women’s Volleyball Team wins opening game against UE

(February 1)—The UP Women’s Volleyball team defeated the University of East Lady Warriors in three straight sets, 25-20, 25-13, 25-21, in the opening game of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 78 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at The Arena in San Juan City. 23 Int’l exchange students enroll at UPD

(JAN. 26)—Twenty-three new foreign students from partner universities in Asia-Pacific, Europe and the United States are enrolled as exchange or visiting students, at UP Diliman (UPD) this second semester. Four National Artists at UP Diliman Month

The lives and works of four National Artists of the Philippines are at the heart of Panahon ng Luwalhati, UP Diliman’s celebration of the arts and culture month in February.
