Call for Papers: Japanese Studies in the Philippines: The 2020 Nationwide Research Competition
The Japan Foundation and the UP Asian Center are calling for submissions of Japan-related research for the “Japanese Studies in the Philippines: The 2020 Nationwide Research Competition.” The competition is open to Filipino students enrolled in colleges and universities across the Philippines. Winners will receive a five-day all-expenses paid trip to Japan from 24 February to 28 February 2020 (To be confirmed).
Application Period
Application period will run from 14 October 2019 to 13 December 2019.

To be a woman and old in RP: Study explores intersectionality of ageing and gender
Women in the Philippines have longer lives compared to men: average age of older Filipino women is 70 while for men, 68 years. They also outnumber the men in old age. Six in 10 of Filipinos aged 60 and over are women.

CCP-EPA 2nd edition launched at UPD
(NOV. 20) – After taking five years to complete, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) finally launched the second print edition of the CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art (CCP-EPA 2nd ed.) on Nov. 14 at the UP Asian Center-GT Toyota Auditorium.
The launch was part of the activities of the international conference “Rhetoric of Creative Partnership: Conversations on Cross-cultural Artistic Exchanges.”
CCP-EPA 2nd ed. is a collaborative project between CCP and UP Diliman (UPD) and is dubbed as the “Legacy Project.”

From laboratories to communities: Deploying researches to the market
(NOV. 8)— Four technologies generated from researches were officially launched as spin-offs and licensed technology by UP Diliman and the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD).
The three technologies that were introduced as spin-offs are Fish-i, CharM and Smart Surface, while the lone licensed technology is the Ready-to-Drink Sweet Potato Leaf Extract (SPLE) Beverages.
