Tan, Chancellor, UP Diliman September 4, 2016 Following the bomb threat hoax last Thursday, there have been numerous postings on social media of a message claiming that “reliable intelligence sources” have warned about Abu Sayyaf plans to bomb UP Diliman. Press Release about a Bomb Threat

This afternoon our Campus Maintenance Office hotline received a text message allegedly from the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) claiming they had placed bombs in UP Diliman and that these would explode after 3:30 pm (“naglagay kami ng maga bomba na naka2lat sa UP Diliman.  SDa2bog ang ito pagkatapos ng pagda2sl naming ng 3:30 PM.”)  The message claimed this was to take revenge (“bilng gnti”) for attacks in Patikul, Sulu. The UP Fighting Maroons kicked off the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 79 in style as they held the annual Pep Rally last Aug. 24 at the University Theater. The Department of Linguistics (DL) of the UP Diliman (UPD) College of Social Sciences and Philosophy celebrated the life and work of Ernesto Constantino, avid folklorist and a pioneering figure in Philippine linguistics last Aug. 25 with “Paglingon,” a lecture series held at the Bulwagan ng Dangal.
