Statement of Chancellor Michael L. Tan on his disqualification as Candidate for the UP Presidency

Michael L. Tan October 3, 2016 I am confirming that the Board of Regents decided, at a special meeting on October 1, to disqualify me and three other senior citizen candidates from the UP presidential race. I intentionally filed my candidacy papers last September 23 to challenge the age requirement of having to complete the 6 year presidency before the age of 70.  I will turn 70 in September 2022, and the term of the incoming president will end February 2023. (OCT. 3)—Prof. Jerwin F. Agpaoa of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) is the new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs effective Oct. 1 succeeding Dr. Neil Martial R. Santillan who resigned earlier due to health reasons. Agpaoa is an assistant professor at the Department of Philosophy. UP Computer Center celebrates 50 years

(SEPT. 24)—The University Computer Center (UCC), the office that connects UP Diliman to the World Wide Web celebrated its 50th anniversary last Sept. 15 at the Executive House. The UCC was established on Sept. 15, 1966—19 years before UP Diliman was formally established—to provide high-speed computer services for the use of the University faculty, administration and studentry in academic research, administration and instruction. Cao is 2016 Metrobank outstanding teacher awardee

UPD Institute of Biology director Dr. Ernelea P. Cao is this year’s recipient of the Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award. Cao, together with four elementary, four secondary school teachers, and a professor from the higher education level, were conferred with the award on Sept. 5 at the Metrobank Plaza Auditorium in Makati, in celebration of the National Teachers Month and Metrobank’s 54th anniversary.
