(May 21)—Dr. Ligaya G. Tiamson-Rubin, professor emerita and former chair of the UP College of Arts and Letters Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature (CAL-DFPP), passed away on May 18 due to complications from diabetes. She was 73.  Also known as Ma’am Gaying to peers and students, Tiamson-Rubin was born on Nov. 27, 1944 in Angono, Rizal. Sen. Edgardo J. Angara He was a tireless advocate for science, technology and innovation, multidisciplinary research to support national policymaking, education reform, and the people’s right to education. In his long, colorful life, he served as educator, lawyer, farmer, diplomat, and patron of the arts. Before he passed away last May 13, he was appointed special envoy of the Philippines to the European Union. But for the University of the Philippines, Edgardo Javier Angara will be remembered first and foremost for his service as UP’s 15th president from 1981 to 1987.

The Philippine Genome Center (PGC) is inviting college students in science and engineering for an internship program in bioinformatics.
