(FEB. 8) – Prof. Hussein Sinsuat Lidasan is the new dean of The School of Urban and Regional Planning (The SURP). His 3-year appointment was approved at the 1341st Board of Regents meeting on Feb. 4. Books of 4 UPD faculty win 37th National Book Awards

(NOV. 6)—Books published in 2017 by UP Diliman (UPD) professors Jose S. Buenconsejo, PhD, Luna Sicat-Cleto, PhD, Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo, PhD and Ma. Mercedes G. Planta, PhD won in three categories of the 37th National Book Awards (NBA). The award is given yearly by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and Manila Critics Circle (MCC) to the best books written, designed and published in the country. (OCT. 17) — Dr. Dinah Palmera P. Nadera, mid-August this year, became the University Health Service’s (UHS’s) first resident psychiatrist. The first resident psychiatrist Prior to Nadera, the UHS has had psychiatric consultants. However, it is only recently that a resident psychiatrist has been hired. (JUNE 26) Seven alumni of the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) landed in the top 10 of the June 2018 Environmental Planner Licensure Examination (EnPLE). Amillah S. Rodil notched the top spot with a grade of 83.05 percent. She was followed by Alvin F. Veron (82.00%), Rio C. Yonson (3rd, 81.55%) and Ace G. Ligsay (4th, 81.40%). Defend the truth: UPD Class 2018

(JUNE 27)—Sunflowers, sunshine and cloudy skies greeted the 4,612 graduates who received their respective degrees at UP Diliman’s 107th General Commencement Exercises at the University Amphitheater on June 24.  Wearing their sablay, the academic garb of the University, the graduates, along with their families and friends, arrived as early as 5:30 a.m. and converged at the Oblation Plaza for the rites.
