Stat has new dean

(NOV. 13)—Prof. Joseph Ryan G. Lansangan, PhD is the 10th dean of the UP Diliman (UPD) School of Statistics (Stat). The University of the Philippines Board of Regents approved Lansangan’s appointment at its special meeting on Oct. 11. Lansanga, who succeeded Prof. Claire Dennis S. Mapa, PhD, will serve until Oct. 10, 2022. Pumailanlang: UPD Christmas celebrations 2019

(NOV. 27)—Holiday celebrations in UP Diliman (UPD) will begin on Nov. 29, 5 p.m. not at the Oblation Plaza where it’s traditionally held, but at the Carillon Plaza, amid a backdrop of soaring birds. Entitled “Pag-iilaw Para sa Pasko,” the Christmas lights of all the major buildings on campus are switched on for the first time. “Pumailanlang” is the theme of this year’s celebrations. (NOV. 5)—A book on theatre studies focused on the Philippines by Prof. Sir Anril P. Tiatco, PhD of the UP Diliman College of Arts and Letters (UPD-CAL) won the Best Book on Art category at the 38th National Book Awards (NBA). UPD is 1st in geodetic licensures

(OCT. 29)—UP Diliman ranked first in the October 2019 Geodetic Engineer Licensure Examination, with six of its graduates making it to the top 10. All 87 examinees fielded by the College of Engineering Department of Geodetic Engineering (UPD-DGE) passed on their first try, giving it a 100 percent passing rate, making it number 1 of the top performing schools (those with 10 or more examinees and with at least 80% passing percentage). UP sweeps NU

(OCT. 24) – The UP Fighting Maroons survived the already ousted National University (NU) Bulldogs, 80-77, to rack up their 8th win in the UAAP Season 82 Men’s Basketball Tournament on Oct. 23 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
