Retired mathematics professor Cesar G. Tapia, PhD passed away on Sept. 21. He was 73. Tapia worked in UP as instructor at the then Department (now Institute) of Mathematics (IM) immediately after he earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1970.  There he stayed up until his retirement in 2012 with the rank of Professor 12. UP students win international software competition

A team composed of students from all over the UP System emerged as one of the three winners in the Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) 2021 Solution Challenge. UP Systeam, composed of Rex Ronter Ruiz (UP Diliman), Jian Asiado (UP Los Baños), Joerian E. Gauten (UP Open University), and Patricia Marie C. Modernizing RP maritime transport

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) recently entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with UP Diliman (UPD) to bring science and technology innovations to the Philippine maritime industry. SLIS turns 60, Golfo-Barcelona is new dean

July 1st this year marked two important milestones for the UP School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS): the celebration of its 60th anniversary and the swearing in of its 10th dean. The event was streamed live from the school’s official Facebook, YouTube and Twitch channels. Productive pandemic. Hedreyda, 65

The Faculty and Staff of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (NIMBB) of U.P. Diliman are saddened to announce the passing of Prof. Cynthia T. Hedreyda in the afternoon of 6 July 2021. She was 65. Prof. Hedreyda completed her B.S. Biology and M.S. Genetics degrees from the University of the Philippines Los Banos, and her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Georgia, GA, USA. She joined the NIMBB faculty in 1996 and became the Institute’s director from 2003-2012. She remained a distinguished member of the NIMBB faculty until her retirement in December, 2020. Maya-2 now in orbit

(MAR. 15)—Maya-2, the second cube satellite (cubesat) designed and made by Filipino engineers under a joint program by UP Diliman (UPD) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), is now orbiting the earth. In a livestream from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), Maya-2 was released into space from the International Space Station (ISS) on March 14, at 7:20 p.m. Philippine Time.
