UPD and PTRI ink MOU
UP Diliman (UPD) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI) held a ceremonial signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 5 at the UPD Office of the Chancellor. Saloma is an Optica Fellow
Caesar A. Saloma, professor emeritus at the UP Diliman National Institute of Physics (NIP) has recently been elected as an Optica Fellow.
According to its website, Optica was founded in 1916 as the Optical Society of America. It is the leading organization for scientists, engineers, business professionals, students, and others interested in the science of light.

PH can benefit from nuclear science
In the latest edition of the i-conNECt: The UP National Engineering Center Free Webinar Series, energy expert Jane Gerardo-Abaya, PhD, spoke on how the Philippines benefits from nuclear science and technology (NST).
She is the president of the Philippine Austrian Cultural and Educational Society. Gerardo-Abaya has been with the IAEA since 1994, and served as director from 2019 to 2023. She served the Philippine National Oil Company-Energy Development Corporation from 1989 to 1993 as part of the Geothermal Division.

EEEI Open RAN lab: A technological breakthrough
At the soft launch of the UP Diliman (UPD) Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI) Open Radio Access Network Laboratory (Open RAN Lab), UP President Angelo A. Jimenez hailed the laboratory as a “technological breakthrough.”
“The establishment of the Open RAN Laboratory is a technological breakthrough for the country. More than that, it is a testament to what we now can achieve through partnership, cooperation, and collaboration between academia, government, and international development partners,” Jimenez said in his message read by UP Assistant Vice President for Development (Digital Transformation) Peter A. Sy.

CFA, CSWCD programs assessed
Four academic programs from the UP Diliman (UPD) College of Fine Arts (CFA) and the College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD) underwent an onsite external review conducted by the Quality Assurance Office (QAO).

UPFI and Co Family formalize scholarship grant
The UP Foundation, Inc. (UPFI) and the Co Family recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) formally establishing the Rosalinda Gan Ne Choa Scholarship Grant.
This scholarship is intended for UP Diliman (UPD) students enrolled in an undergraduate degree under the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics strand, and not yet a beneficiary of another private scholarship.

Kanlungan at Kasarinlan: An Arts and Science Exhibit on the West Philippine Sea (Kanlungan at Kasarinlan), recently opened at the UP Diliman (UPD) Marine Science Institute (MSI) Marine Biodiversity Resources and Information System (MBRIS) building.
The exhibit showcased the West Philippine Sea’s (WPS) rich marine biodiversity, the fight of every Filipino for its sovereign rights, the country’s efforts in resolving conflicts through peaceful resolutions, and the collective efforts in protecting the country’s natural heritage.
