The Christmas Tradition at UP
(Dec. 16) — Colorful floats, twinkling lanterns, festive participants and spectacular fireworks: nothing defines Christmas at UP Diliman (UPD) better than the annual Lantern Parade. From its beginnings as a simple homage to an old Christmas tradition to the elegant, colorful, sometimes controversial creations that strut (or sometimes sputter) around the UPD academic oval each Yuletide, the Lantern Parade has evolved into an event that reflects both the people and milieu of its time, depicting the changing social and political landscape of the University and indeed, the country.

UPD recovers from Glenda
(JUL. 21)—In the morning of Wednesday, Jul. 16, residents of UP Diliman (UPD) woke to howling winds and heavy rains. Typhoon Glenda was barreling through Metro Manila with winds of up to 185 kilometers per hour.
Glenda (international name Rammasun) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday, June 13. At 2 p.m. of Tuesday, Jul. 15, it had intensified and was quickly approaching Metro Manila. One hour later, UPD Chancellor Michael L. Tan suspended offices.

Padolina at UPSkill seminar

UPD recognized units, personnel for QA-related accomplishments
UP Diliman (UPD) units and personnel were recognized for their quality assurance (QA)-related accomplishments at the recent Kahusayan: Seremonya ng Pagkilala sa Kagalingan sa QA, the culminating activity of the QA Week 2024.
UPD Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II lauded the UPD Quality Assurance Office (QAO) for its efforts in bringing together different stakeholder groups “who are all instrumental in promoting and sustaining the culture of quality in the University, especially the heads of units, quality assurance officers, and administrative staff and REPS .”

MSI honors Gomez, renames its building
The UP Diliman (UPD) Marine Science Institute (MSI) recently honored National Scientist Edgardo D. Gomez, its founder and the institute’s prime driving force, by renaming its building as the Edgardo D. Gomez Hall (Gomez Hall) at the celebration of its 50th founding anniversary.

Abesamis is Pew fellow
Rene Abesamis, PhD of the UP Diliman Marine Science Institute (MSI) has been recently conferred with the 2024 Pew Fellows Program in Marine Conservation Award by the Pew Charitable Trusts.
