(ABS-CBN)—The University of the Philippines Singing Ambassadors (UPSA) was named grand prize winner in the 66th Concorso Polifonico Internazionale “Guido d’Arezzo” choral competition in Italy.

How are the Pinoys in Italy?
(AUG. 14)—There are more than 160,000 Filipinos in Italy and most of them work in the domestic and family sector. This is according to the 2016 executive summary of the Ministerio del Lavoro e delle Politiche Sociali on the Filipino Community (http://www.integrazionemigranti.gov.it).
The summary states the Filipino community is the sixth largest in terms of regular residents in Italy, with more Filipino women (57.3 percent of the Filipino community) than Filipino men.

Alice G. Guillermo writes 30
(JUL. 30)—Dr. Alice G. Guillermo, professor emerita and former chair of the UP College of Arts and Letters Department of Arts Studies (DAS), passed away on Jul. 29 after a long illness. She was 80.
In May this year, the DAS, together with the College of Fine Arts and Alliance of Concerned Teachers, organized a fundraising event for Guillermo who suffered an acute intraparenchymal hemorrhage or hemorrhagic stroke and an acute kidney injury.

New UPCC facilities inaugurated
(JUL 13)—After 16 months of renovation, the UP Computer Center was inaugurated Jul. 12 with UP President Danilo L. Concepcion and former center directors as special guests.
With its new facilities, the Center is envisioned to serve as UP Diliman’s model building for information and communication infrastructure. The renovation was undertaken through the Office of the Campus Architect.
