(OKTUBRE 29)— “Tokhang” ang hinirang na salita ng taon matapos makakuha ng mataas na boto mula sa mahigit 100 delegado na dumalo sa “Sawikaan 2018: Pambansang Kumperensiya sa Salita ng Taon,” noong Okt. 24 sa UP Diliman (UPD) Institute of Biology Auditorium.  Magkatuwang na itinaguyod ng Filipinas Institute of Translation, Inc. (FIT), Opisina ng Tsanselor sa UPD at UPD Information Office, gayundin ng Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF) at National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), ito ang pang-siyam na Sawikaan. An exhibition highlighting the science and technology achievements of UP Diliman (UPD) opened the first UPD Science, Technology & Society (STS) Month on Oct. 4 at the Palma Hall Lobby. (OCT. 3)— After two groundbreaking ceremonies, the Epsilon Chi Center (ECC) at the Molave Residence Hall was finally inaugurated on Oct. 2.  A legacy project of the Epsilon Chi Fraternity, Inc. (ECFI) to the university, the ECC will serve as a health, fitness and sports facility for the UP Diliman (UPD) faculty, staff and students.  The first groundbreaking ceremony happened during Epsilon Chi’s 50th founding anniversary on Oct. 2, 2014. Another groundbreaking ceremony was held in 2015 with ECFI signing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with UPD through the chancellor.
