UPD CHANCELLOR’S CLARIFICATION ON USE OF UPD CAMPUS SPACES

I would like to clarify that I never banned any individual or group from holding a rally inside the UP Diliman campus. I uphold the long-standing principle that UP Diliman is a site for free thought and speech, and I would never prohibit any gathering as long as university protocols are respected. Any group regardless of social, political, ideological, or religious affiliation is welcome to hold a peaceful rally or gathering in UP Diliman, but is requested to inform the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs beforehand. Statement of the UP Diliman Chancellor on the Red-tagging of Former Student Leaders

Fidel R. Nemenzo Chancellor, UP Diliman   We view with grave concern the latest effort of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), through their official social media sites, to red-tag former student leaders of the University of the Philippines by including them in a list they called “Some of the UP Students who became NPA (Dead or Captured)”. The list includes distinguished alumni who have become outstanding professionals in their chosen fields – lawyers, artists, development managers, journalists with a track record of integrity and service in various government and civil society organizations – whom the University of the Philippines is proud…

UPD Denies Drugs and Crime Rate Accusations

No shabu (methamphetamine) or illegal-drug laboratory has ever operated inside the UP Diliman (UPD) campus; neither has there been information or intelligence reports from the Philippine National Police (PNP) or the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to back this claim. The UPD Public Safety and Security Office (UPD-PSSO) in 2020 recorded drug-related crimes at only 1 to 2% of security incidents in UPD, and none of the three (3) cases recorded in February 2020 involved UP students, faculty or staff. Likewise, there is no basis for the claim that UP is a…
