Earliest fiber technology found in Tabon Cave
Earliest pieces of evidence of basket and tie manufacturing on stone tools were recently found in Tabon Cave in Palawan by researchers from UP Diliman (UPD) and the National Museum.
The pieces of evidence found date back to 39,000 to 33,000 years ago, determined through cutting-edge microscopic analyses.
In correspondences with UPDate Online, Hermine Xhauflair, PhD said the finding shows “that people in Tabon Cave were already processing plant fibers to make baskets and ties 39,000 to 33,000 years ago.”

Serrano shares plans for SOLAIR

Aguirre: LIS stalwart, renaissance woman
Lawyer, administrator, educator, and former dean of the UP Diliman (UPD) School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) Vyva Victoria Aguirre passed away on June 12.
A woman ahead of her time, Aguirre embodied a distinctive and invaluable set of knowledge and competencies integral to the complex societies of today with four degrees under her belt–a Bachelor of Laws, a Master of Laws, a master’s degree in library science, and a bachelor’s degree in foreign service.

CECLV attends international tourism conference
UP Diliman (UPD) Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II recently attended an international conference in support of the Phnom Penh Declaration on the International Code for the Protection of Tourists (Code).
According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) website, the Code is the first “legal instrument designed to create internationally recognized standards for the protection of tourists at the international level.”

Arki holds 1st in-person Haraya after lockdown
For the first time in three years, the UP Diliman (UPD) College of Architecture (CA) celebrated its annual college week in person with the launch of Haraya 2023 on June 13 at the CA Building 1.
