UP wins again

The UP Fighting Maroons survived the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons’ last-ditch effort, 73-71, in the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines) Season 84 men’s basketball tournament on April 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Soaring Falcons controlled the first 10 minutes of the game and was ahead by nine points, 22-13, at the end of the first quarter. The Fighting Maroons then stepped up the tempo in the second frame by unleashing a 26-15 run to even the score, 39-39, going into the third canto of the game.

UP scores 3rd straight win

The UP Fighting Maroons thwarted the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors’ late rally to claim its third win, 81-66, in the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines) Season 84 men’s basketball tournament on April 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena. UP had a good start at the get go of the game. Behind the sweet shooting hands of Ricci Rivero, CJ Cansino, and Carl Tamayo, the Fighting Maroons coasted to a 31-14 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of the ballgame.

Toshie rests

The University Library Diliman joins the family of Sesinando Garcia Eugenio Jr. in mourning his untimely passing on March 27. Known among friends and family as Toshie, for six years he was an administrative staff member assigned to the Information Services and Instruction (ISAIS) and Filipiniana Books Sections of the University Library. UP Fighting Maroons defeats UST Growling Tigers

The UP Fighting Maroons earned its first win in the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines) Season 84 men’s basketball tournament by defeating the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, 98-82, on Tuesday, March 29, at the Mall of Asia Arena. UP had a good start, establishing a 7-3 lead. But the Growling Tigers countered with five three-pointers, ending the first quarter with a nine—point lead at 25-16. In the second quarter, with improved defense and ball distribution, the Maroons was able to cut down UST’s lead 48-42.

Wadi is IIS dean

For the third time in his academic career, Prof. Julkipli M. Wadi is the UP Diliman (UPD) Institute of Islamic Studies (IIS) dean. His appointment was approved by the UP Board of Regents at its 1367th meeting on Jan. 27. Wadi. Photo from IIS website He succeeded Prof. Macrina A. Waste Management

The University’s waste management program adopts the UN Environmental Programme’s waste management hierarchy, that is, prevention, reduction, recycling, recovery and disposal, in decreasing order of importance. The University acknowledges its duty to eliminate and/or reduce the dangers to health and environment caused by the waste it generates. It shall work to systematize the reduction of waste by enforcing campus-wide arrangements that will enable individuals to realistically adopt a zero-waste lifestyle and by providing the community information and services for correct waste disposal practices.
