34 CL social entrepreneurs complete UPDEPP pilot course

The current issue has four articles and a short communication. “Survival and Growth of Re-attached Storm-generated Coral Fragments Post Super-typhoon Haiyan (a.k.a. Yolanda)” by Jonathan A. Anticamara and Barron Cedric A. Tan discusses the re-attachment of 43 species of coral fragments to sturdy natural substrates in three sites in Eastern Samar damaged by super typhoon Haiyan. IESM still world regional training center in meteorology

(Jan.22)—The UP Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology (IESM) is still a World Meteorological Organization-Regional Training Centre (WMO-RTC) after its reconfirmation on Dec. 19. IESM was first recognized as WMO-RTC in 2010. WMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) with 192 member states and territories. OCG temporarily moves to CAL Pavilion

The Office of Counseling and Guidance (OCG) announced that all guidance counselors will be reporting to different satellite offices at the Palma Hall CAL Pavilion in February. Vinzons Hall will be under renovation starting February and all offices in the building will be relocated including the OCG.

Jubilant beginning

The newly-established University of the Philippines Symphony Orchestra (UPSO) successfully held its inaugural concert “Ang Unang Pasko ng UP Symphony Orchestra” on Dec. 13, 6 p.m. at the University Amphitheater. Under the baton of College of Music (CMu) Prof. Josefino “Chino” Toledo, the 65-member UPSO performed both classical and contemporary orchestral works for Christmas, including works of National Artists for Music Lucio San Pedro (1913-2002) and Ryan Cayabyab.  The orchestra consists of alumni, faculty members, staff and students from varied constituent UP universities. This Christmas, UP Diliman pays homage to its graduates, academics and personnel pursuing scholarly and advocacy works in the country in the festivities “Paglaot, Pagdaong.” The Christmas theme also celebrates the forthcoming 70th anniversary of the transfer of the Oblation from the UP Manila campus to its new home in Diliman.
