20th Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop call for fellows extended to Oct. 30
October 4, 2016 — The Journalism Department of the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines has extended its call for fellows to the 20th Graciano Lopez Jaena Community Journalism Workshop. The new deadline for submission of applications is on Oct. 30, 2016.
The Workshop has also been moved to November 27 to December 2, 2016. Full fellowships, which cover travel, food and accommodation expenses, are available to practicing community journalists.
With the theme “Science Journalism: Contextualizing Science Reporting for Philippine Communities,” the workshop will enrich the fellows’ appreciation of the various areas of the science beat and will introduce them to new tools and techniques of science…

Linguistics major bags title in World Korean Speech tilt
(SEPT. 23)— Maria Concepcion Loren R. Chua, a BA Linguistics student of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) bested 17 other competitors by winning the Korean Ministry of Education Award at the 21st World Korean Speech Contest on Jul. 30 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was organized by the Korean Orators Association.

Gitara ni Juan: Making quality guitars for Pinoys
A team of faculty members, engineers and musicians from UP Diliman combined art, engineering and science to create a quality classical guitar for Juan Dela Cruz and which may hopefully revive the declining industry of guitar-making in the Philippines.
