Pahayag ng UPD University Council sa Pagtatanggal ng mga Sinasabing Subersibong Libro mula sa mga Aklatan
Pagtatanggol sa Kalayaang Akademiko
Sinusuportahan ng University Council ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas Diliman (UPD UC) ang mga pahayag ng UPD School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS), UPD Office of the Chancellor Executive Staff (OCES), at UP System-wide University Library Council na tumututol sa pagtatanggal ng mga libro sa mga aklatan ng tatlong higher education institutions (HEIs).
Sa kaniyang Nobyembre 2 na pahayag, sinabi ni J. Prospero De Vera III, Tagapangulo ng Commission on Higher Education (CHED), na diumano’y “ehersisyo sa kalayaang akademiko (in the exercise of academic freedom)” ang desisyon ng Kalinga State University, Isabela State University, at Aklan State…

The Real Subversion: A Statement by UP Professors Emeriti on the Banning of “Subversive” Books
We, Professors Emeriti at the University of the Philippines, express our strongest support for the University Council of UP Diliman in its protest against the recent memorandum issued by the Commission on Higher Education in the Cordillera Administrative Region urging libraries in that region to remove “subversive” books and materials from their collections.
Far from being of tangential concern to us in UP, this memorandum is an assault on academic freedom in all Philippine universities, as it sets the stage for further and possibly even more repressive measures in schools across the country. Any threat to academic freedom in any…

Statement of the UP Diliman University Council on the Removal of Allegedly Subversive Books from Libraries
The UP Diliman University Council upholds the recent statements of UP School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS), UPD Office of the Chancellor Executive Staff (OCES), and the UP System-wide University Library Council regarding the recent removal of allegedly subversive books from libraries of higher education institutions (HEIs) namely the Kalinga State University, Isabela State University, and Aklan State University.
The removal of books based on ideological criteria is anathema to academic freedom and undermines the role of academic institutions as repositories of thought. This sets a dangerous precedent and a move towards the censorship of our universities.
We are appalled…
