UP Diliman (UPD) woke up to a very sad news of the passing of its own.

Lee, who served the University for 45 years, pioneered the teaching of philosophy for children in the Philippines. He successfully included Philosophy for Children in the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and in the training of public schoolteachers across the country.

He earned his PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1990 through a Fulbright scholarship, and specialized in ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, Kant, Wittgenstein, and philosophy of education.

In the 2011 Fall Term, Lee was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Harvard University Department of Philosophy.

He has received notable awards in his academic career. Lee received the UPD Centennial Professorial Chair thrice, in 2008, 2010, and 2012, and was named Philosophy Pioneer by the Philosophical Association of the Philippines in 2012.

In her Facebook account, Bea Lee posted, “those who wish to bid farewell and honor him are invited to join in simple celebrations hosted by his family and friends on different nights from June 6 to 8 at Room 308, St. Peter Chapels, Quezon Avenue. You can send any of his three children – Gabby, Louie, or Bea – a message with any questions. Thank you.”

Thank you for your invaluable service to UP, Sir Zos, you will be missed.
