UP NSRI ISO certified; De Ungria receives award

The UP Diliman Natural Sciences Research Institute (NSRI) is now ISO 9001:2015 certified.

ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard that specifies the requirements for quality management systems. According to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) website, receiving ISO 9001 certificate means the organization “has put effective processes and trained staff to deliver flawless products or services from time after time.”

The NSRI received the certification notice from the QAS [Quality Assurance Scheme] International on Nov. 16. The QAS International is an independent and full–service ISO consulting and certification body.

In a related development, Maria Corazon A. De Ungria, PhD, head of the DNA Analysis Laboratory of the NSRI, received the Forensic Excellence Award by the Sherlock Institute of Forensic Science India, Clue4 Evidence Forensic Lab, and the Network of Universities of Agham Forensika.

De Ungria was awarded for her “dedication, innovation, and leadership which significantly impacted the Forensic Science field by setting a standard of excellence.”

De Ungria is University Researcher V, the highest rank for research, extension, and professional staff in UP. She holds the Career Scientist 4 in the Scientific Career System of the Department of Science and Technology and the Civil Service Commission. She received the award during the 4th International Forensic Science Conference 2023 held from Dec. 1 to 3 in New Delhi, India.
