This was announced by the Geodetic Engineers of the Philippines, a PRC-accredited and integrated professional organization for geodetic engineers, on their official Facebook page on July 17.

Paringit led the Disaster Risk and Exposure Assessment for Mitigation and Phil-LIDAR 1 programs from 2011 to 2018. Both programs primarily used light detection and ranging technology to create updated flood maps and models of target areas. The maps and models are used in disaster risk management planning.

According to the PRC, the Outstanding Professional of the Year (OPY) is an annual award given to “acknowledge the achievement and service of professionals who excel in their respective fields of professional endeavor.”

This year, the OPY is given to professionals who have “sufficient demonstration of professional and academic accomplishment/attainment,” “significant contribution to the advancement of the profession, e.g., project/s, inventions, innovations that benefited the country, community and the people,” “significant contribution to the community through own initiative which may or may not be related to the practice of profession,” and done “meaningful participation in professional activities through the professional organization,” states the PRC.

The DGE, in its Facebook post, states that his “unwavering dedication to advancing the field of geodetic and geomatics engineering in the Philippines” have “significantly impacted the country’s technological development and infrastructure.”

Paringit is the executive director of the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development since 2018.
