Music for a cause

(MAY 19) — A new line-up of homegrown talents from the UP College of Music (CMu) performed via Facebook Live this May 18 at 7 p.m. at “MusiKaakbay: Musika at Bayanihan” (MusiKaakbay).

“MusiKaakbay: Musika at Bayanihan” (MusiKaakbay), an online fundraising concert series for the benefit of CMu students and staff, the University Health Service and medical frontliners, was launched on May 10 via the CMu Student Council (CMuSC) Facebook page.

A CMuSC project, the concert series showcases online performances of CMu students, alumni and performing groups.  For its pilot episode, the concert featured Bianca Lopez-Aguila of the Philippine Madrigal Singers.

For the concert series from May 18 to 22, featured artists are Tony Virtucio and Ervin Lumauag (May 18); Jenny and Jeff and Padayon Rondalla (May 19); Michelle Mariposa and Stephanie Quintin-Avila and Anton Luis Avila (May 20); and ConChords and Acapellago (May 21).

For its grand finale on May 22, MusiKaakbay features CMu students, bands, UP performers and performing groups.

Donation for the concert series may be through deposit or online bank transfer to Ricardo Juanito Balledos (GCash: 09452012917 | BPI Account Number: 1949-4380-62 | PayPal: paypal.me/RJBalledos).

Donors are requested to send a screenshot of the accomplished transaction via email at upd.cmusc@gmail.com for confirmation and tracking of the donations.

As of May 16, the CMu student council raised P28,834.

Other artists who performed for MusiKaakbaywere Monching Carpio (May 11), Jesper Mercado (May 12), Toma Cayabyab and Baihana (May 14), and Aaron Aguila (May 15).

MusiKaakbay is in partnership with UP Conemus, UP College of Fine Arts Student Council, UP College of Mass Communication Student Council, UP College of Science Student Council, Salinmusika, UP Junior Music Educators’ Guild – JMEG, Manila Composers Lab, UP NCPAG Student Council, UP School of Economics Student Council, TugtugangMusikaAsyatika, UP College of Education Student Council, UPDC – University of the Philippines Dance Company, UP Guitar Orchestra, UP Voice and Music Theater Guild, Villancico Vocal Ensemble, and theUP Symphonic Band.

The initiative was endorsed by the CMu and the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts.
