Early this August, UP Diliman (UPD) was deeply saddened by the news of the passing of faculty member Louella Barra Orillaza, PhD.

Known at the UPD Department of Psychology (UPDDP) as a person who radiated “joy and care in her teaching and service,” Orillaza passed away on Aug. 7.
The UPDDP chair from 2021 to 2024, Orillaza was associate professor of developmental psychology and health psychology. According to the UPDDP, her research interests were in social support; the experiences and well-being of support-givers; illness perceptions; attachment; and health-related behaviors.
Orillaza earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from the University of Canterbury. She was department representative of Pi Gamma Mu in 2013 and member of the Pambansang Samahan sa Sikolohiyang Pilipino.
In a Facebook post, the UPDDP paid tribute to Orillaza by describing her as a person who lived a “life devoted to learning, service, and care.”
You are deeply missed. Farewell to you and your radiant joy and care.
