Goodbye Regi

August turned out to be not only physically turbulent for UP Diliman (UPD), but emotionally as well. Many colleagues have passed these days. Barely five days ago, another well-loved member of the community sadly went ahead to the great beyond—Reginald Dominic R. Cruz, of the UPD Department of European Languages (DEL).

Days after celebrating his 56th birthday on Aug. 4, Regi passed away on Aug. 20.

In a heartfelt tribute to Regi, who was an instructor at the DEL Italian Section, the department described him in its Facebook post, as someone who always “shared his extensive passion and expertise in the Italian language and culture.”

“We will always remember Regi for his generosity, unwavering commitment to serve, and the vibrant, joyful presence he brough to each encounter,” the DEL post continued.

Similarly, the UPD College of Education (CEd) posted their own tribute to Regi in their Facebook page, remembering him as a “guro ng bayan who touched lives and shaped futures.” The CEd added that “in his journey, we see an enduring truth that education is not just about books and classrooms, but about hope, renewal, and the power of one life to inspire others.”

Regi earned his Bachelor of Secondary Education in Communication Arts (English) in 2019 from the CEd with a cum laude distinction. He joined the DEL faculty in 2022.

The DEL posted that his remains lie at the Manila Memorial Park in Sta. Rita, Guiguinto, Bulacan.

Fare thee well, Regi.
