CSSP opens 40th anniv with parade

To kick off its 40th anniversary celebration, the UP Diliman (UPD) College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP) paraded around the Academic Oval in the morning of Oct. 9.

In a correspondence with UPDate Online, the CSSP said the activity “will serve as an opportunity to gather and unite CSSP faculty, staff, and students to parade the milestone achievements of the college in producing social scientists and dedicated servants of the country.”

Parade participants carried tarpaulins which identified the CSSP’s different departments, units, and organizations as well as placards expressing their protests and opinions on some sociopolitical issues.

The parade started at the Palma Hall and went around the Academic Oval and stopped at the Quezon Hall lobby for a brief program. The parade ended where it began—at Palma Hall.

The college’s 40th anniversary celebration carried the theme Pagpapanibagong-lunsad tungo sa Bagong Paglilingkod.

The college had their calendar full of activities this October. From Oct. 10 to 19, the CSSP will have a basketball tournament at the UPD Police court. This will be followed by a ballroom dance at the Palma Hall lobby from Oct. 11 to 25. A table tennis competition is slated on Oct. 16 t at the Wellness Center, while a volleyball tournament will happen from Oct. 16 to 27 at the University Hotel. An event highlight is the CSSP Alumni Homecoming on Oct. 21 at the Palma Hall Lobby. The CSSP will also host a badminton event from Oct. 24 to 26 at the CSSP parking lot. The following day is the CSSP Halloween party on Oct. 27 at the Palma Hall lobby. The month-long anniversary celebration ends with a fun run activity at the Academic Oval on Oct. 28.

The CSSP is part of the three colleges the UP Board of Regents created from the former UP College of Arts and Sciences through Administrative Order No. 170 on 26 Oct. 1983. The other two were the UPD College of Arts and Letters and the UPD College of Science.
