CECLV receives 2 UP unions

The unions of academic and non-academic personnel of UP Diliman (UPD) separately paid a courtesy call to Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II on June 13 at the Office of the Chancellor.

First to meet the chancellor were the officers and some members of the All UP Academic Employees Union (AUPAEU) National and AUPAEU-Diliman together with the Alliance of Contractual Employees in UP (ACEUP).

Mary Grace Concepcion, AUPAEU-Diliman president, said they held a dialogue with Vistan to discuss “important and pressing issues of the University such as issues on academic freedom, red tagging, job security, promotion, salaries, and benefits of contractual employees.”

Other AUPAEU and ACEUP officers and members who were with Concepcion were Rolando C. delos Reyes II (AUPAEU-Diliman public relations officer / PRO), Steph Andaya (AUPAEU-National secretary general), Crizel Sicat-De Laza (AUPAEU-Diliman member), Ram Hernandez (AUPAEU-Diliman member), Ma. Theresa Reamon (ACEUP sergeant-at-arms), and Glenn Cabradillo (ACEUP member).

Vistan next received the officers of the All UP Workers Union-Diliman chapter (AUPWU-Diliman) who were also scheduled that day.

The AUPWU-Diliman President Clodualdo “Buboy” E. Cabrera said the AUPWU-Diliman visited the chancellor to have a dialogue and know what Vistan’s initial plans are for UPD.

“May mga ilang issues na kagyat naming ihahain sa kaniya. May mga immediate na issues na kailangan maaksyunan na. Halimbawa, iyong suporta niya sa conversion ng non-UP to UP contractual [employees]. Noong nakaraan, 32 [sa UPD non-UP contractual employees] ang na-convert to UP contractual. Iyong budget ng funding ng mga ito ay pina-shoulder sa UPD. Gusto namin hingin ang suporta ni Chancellor Vistan if in case na muling gawin ng UP System na i-charge sa mga constituent units ang budget sa third batch [ng conversion from non-UP to UP contractual], na i-call niya ang shot, hinggil dito,” Cabrera said. Cabrera was joined by AUPWU-Diliman officers Eva Garcia-Cadiz (vice president), Merilyn B. Berdin (secretary), Romy dela Cruz (treasurer), Edgar Ebreo (PRO), and Alden Aynera and Ana Romero (members, board of directors).
