Distinguished UPSE alumni

(FEB. 23)—It was not yet 6 p.m. but the Bahay ng Alumni was filling up with School of Economics alumni, all excited and dressed to the nines, looking for familiar faces: classmates, friends and professors. As expected, batch mates gravitated towards each other, eager to catch up on each other’s lives. On-stage was a huge screen showing video presentations of the UP School of Economics (UPSE) and UPSE Alumni Association (UPSEAA) activities in preparation for the Gala Night!

The show, produced by the UPSEAA and directed by award-winning UPSE alumnus Bart Guingona, featured UPSE alumni in the performing arts. The Prayer invocation was sung by tenor Frankie Aseniero and Maricris Joaquin. Jon Santos did a Miriam Defensor impression, which brought the house down laughing. Sitti Navarro sang some samba songs while UP Concert Chorus (UPCC) alumni who were UPSE alumni as well rendered songs with theshowmanship the UPCC is known for. OPM Hitmen led by RenzVerano entertained the audience with a medley of songs.

Noteworthy in the program were the introduction of the UPSE Commemorative Book and the launching of “Giving Back,” encouraging alumni to support UPSE’s fund-raising activity.

The highlight of the evening, however, was the recognition of the Schools’ Outstanding Alumni. Four pre-UPSE graduates were given a Distinguished Alumni Citation. They were Dr. Amado Castro (BSBA major in Economics 1948), Gerardo P. Sicat (AB Economics, 1958, cum laude; MA Economics, 1958), SolitaCollasMonsod (AB Economics, 1959) and ConchitaCarpio-Morales (AB Economics, 1964).
