(DEC. 2)—UP Diliman (UPD) was named as one of the most bicycle-friendly workplaces in the first ever Mobility Awards.
On Nov. 27, representatives from award organizers Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities, MNL Moves, The Climate Reality Project Philippines and 350 Pilipinas presented UPD, represented by Chancellor Fidel R. Nemenzo, with a certificate and a recognition sign for winning the silver award in the category of bike-friendly workplaces.
According to the website, the Mobility Awards was created to “recognize bike-friendly local governments, commercial establishments, and workplaces in Metro Manila — and challenges others to keep up.”
The nominees were judged on three criteria: infrastructure (e.g. presence of physical infrastructure or end-of-trip facilities dedicated to bicycle users such as bike racks, storage areas); integration (e.g. programs, policies, and plans that enable cycling); and implementation (e.g. proper use and maintenance of infrastructure and enforcement of bicycle-friendly programs and policies).
The top three workplaces that garnered the gold award in UPD’s category were The Medical City-Ortigas, the Government Service Insurance System compound in Pasig City, and the Pasig Transport Office.
