Over 50 student research abstracts on gender and related studies were presented at SaliksiKasarian 2026 with the theme Centering Gender in Research in the Academe, the first Gender and Development (GAD) Student Conference in UP Diliman (UPD).

Held from Oct. 23 to 24 at Bocobo Hall of the UP Law Complex, the two-day conference drew submissions from student researchers across various Philippine academe, including senior high school, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.
Organized by the UPD Gender Office (DGO), SaliksiKasarian 2026 featured five parallel sessions with the themes: silence, feminists resistance and policy evaluation; queer studies; digital “sex work” and sexual scripts; grassroots organizing; queer, feminism and mental health; lived experience, media representations, and digital politics; gender-based discrimination and epistemic violence; queer identities and resistance; sexual, reproductive and mental health; and women’s and queer studies.

SaliksiKasarian 2026 also had two plenary sessions, Dismantling What We Cannot Live Within, Building What We Cannot Live Without: Knowledge Infrastructures for Gender-Centered Research by Benedict Salazar Olgado, PhD from the UP School of Library and Information Studies; and Kasarian at Uri: Mga Lente sa Pananaliksik na May Pang-akademiko at Pampulitikang Saysay by Judy Taguiwalo, PhD, former secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and retired professor at the UPD Department of Women and Development Studies.

Conference head Kristel May Gomez-Magdaraog said SaliksiKasarian 2026 was conceived as a platform for student research.
“[U]sually gender conferences are for professors, and experts, and advocates. We wanted to provide a platform for students to share their research, build a network as well and at least encourage them to publish through the Diliman Gender Review,” she said.
The Diliman Gender Review is the official annual journal of the UP DGO.
