PTC-ACBET accredits UPD’s BS civil engineering program

The Philippines Technological Council, through its Accreditation and Certification Board for Engineering and Technology, more known as PTC-ACBET, recently accredited the UP Diliman’s (UPD) BS civil engineering program (BSCE).

According to the PTC-ACBET, both the quality of education and quality of graduates of BSCE must adhere to the standards that the Washington Accord established.

The International Engineering Alliance website states that the Washington Accord “is a multi-lateral agreement between bodies responsible for accreditation or recognition of tertiary-level engineering qualifications within their jurisdictions who have chosen to work collectively to assist the mobility of professional engineers.”

The BSCE’s accreditation validity covers the academic years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. The PTC-ACBET assessed and evaluated the BSCE in accordance with the policies, processes, and procedures of its Certification and Accreditation System for Engineering Education.

In November 2025, at the site visit of the PTC-ACBET assessment team, UPD College of Engineering Dean Maria Antonia Tanchuling said, accreditation allows the graduates to practice in other countries that have signed the Washington Accord, and “their education is recognized in those countries.”

Since the PTC is a full signatory to the Washington Accord, the accreditation of the University’s BSCE means that it “is now recognized internationally as substantially equivalent to engineering programs accredited by other Accord signatories.”
