(APR. 25)— Dr. Wilhelmina Q. Ramas, professor emerita at the UP College of Arts and Letters (CAL), passed away on April 17. She was 93.
Ramas was born on Feb. 7, 1923. She took up BS Education in UP and graduated magna cum laude in 1948. She obtained a master of arts in Literature at the Northwestern University in Illinois, USA in 1955 and PhD in English Literature at Fordham University in New York City, USA.
She was an Instructor at the UP Cebu in 1948 and joined the faculty of the Department of English and Comparative Literature at UP Diliman in 1953.
She was the author of “Studies in Pre-War: Sugbuanon Theatre (The First Series)” published in 2001 by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development.
She was also a Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society member in 1948, the Philippine Fulbrighters’ Association in 1955 and the Philippine Folklore Society in 1972.
According to CAL, a necrologocial service for the late professor was held on April 19 at the Santa Maria della Strada Parish Church along Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City. —Haidee C. Pineda with reports from Office of Alumni Relations
