(JUN. 23)—The Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute (EEEI) of the College of Engineering (COE) at UP Diliman (UPD) received the 2019 NCRP Outstanding Institution Award from the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NCRP).
The award was given in recognition of the EEEI’s efforts to become the National Institute for Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering.
“The EEEI devotes resources to the academic formation of students to be well-versed engineers and competent researchers. This is cascaded to the academic programs through capstone projects that address challenging engineering problems. Today, the graduate program offers greater opportunities to specialize in cutting-edge research,” the announcement read.
The institute was also cited for its work with government projects such as the Smart Plant Production in Controlled Environments or SPICE which will be built on the country’s first urban smart farm; and InElecT (Intelligent Electric Transportation Network), a smart network of e-tricycles based in the institute.
“The EEEI has been an active collaborator with government through research and development projects addressing reliability and resiliency issues in power grids, smart farming, intelligent electric transportation systems, and mobile cellular networks in far flung communities among others,” the NCRP said.
The EEEI is one of four NCRP awardees from UPD. The other three are the Natural Sciences Research Institute (NSRI)-DNA Analysis Laboratory (2019 NCRP Outstanding Institution Award), Prof. Henry N. Adorna, PhD of the COE Department of Computer Science (2019 NRCP Achievement Award) and Adelaida F. Lucero, PhD of the College of Arts and Letters Department of English and Comparative Literature (2019 NRCP Achievement Award).
The DOST-NCRP announced the list of awardees on their website last June 19, with the official presentation scheduled on Tuesday, June 30 as part of the NCRP’s Annual Scientific Conference and 87th General Membership Assembly.
The NCRP is a collegial body of highly-trained and productive scientists and researchers addressing the demand for knowledge, skills and innovations in the sciences and humanities under the DOST.
