COE receives bus donation, celebrates founding anniversary

The UP Diliman (UPD) College of Engineering (COE) augmented its transportation facilities with the official turnover of a 20-seater refurbished bus during the college’s 116th founding anniversary.

The bus was a donation by the EMC2 Fraternity. The bus was about to be disposed by the College of Human Kinetics but was rescued by the fraternity. Along with some COE personnel, the bus was repaired that included replacing the partially broken windshield and brakes.

UPD Vice Chancellor for Administration Adeline Pacia said the story of the bus refurbishment reflects the equal value the COE places on sustainability along with its drive for innovation.

“[S]a pamamagitan ng teknikal na kasanayan, pagsisikap at suporta ng EMC2 fraternity mula sa Kolehiyo ng Inhenyeriya, ang isang sasakyang itinuturing nang basura ay muling magagamit. Ipinapaalala nito sa atin na ang inhinyeriya ay hindi lamang tungkol sa paglikha ng bago, ito ay tungkol din sa pag-maximize sa kung ano ang meron tayo,” Pacia said.

Right after the turnover on June 17, the COE paid tribute to its faculty, REPS (research, extension, and professional staff), administrative personnel, custodians, guards, alumni, partners, and retirees through the Araw ng Parangal 2026 held at the Institute of Civil Engineering (ICE) David M. Consunji Theater.

The ceremony recognized institutional achievements and gave appreciation to the COE’s personnel for their sustained service and commitment.

Special awards were given to 10 retiring personnel, that included former COE dean and Quality Assurance Office Diliman director Aura Matias, PhD; Fernando Germar, PhD of the ICE; Virginia Soriano, PhD of the Department of Industrial Engineering; and Joey Ocon, PhD and Florencio Ballesteros, PhD of the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Loyalty awards were given to 22 REPS and administrative staff who gave dedicated service for five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years.

Special segments were given to those who distinguished themselves in UP’s annual sportsfest as well as to the COE’s over 120 custodial and security personnel.
