(SEPT. 16)—Ma. Angela Teresa G. Sebastian of the College of Mass Communication and Lancelot C. Yupingkun of the College of Engineering, are among the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) 2014.

The TOSP, considered as the most prestigious award for young role models of the country, is an annual search of the RFM Foundation. It honors outstanding students who have not only excelled academically, but have also lived a life of dedicated service to be able to make a difference in their respective communities, organizations and fields of interest.

An active student leader, Sebastian completed a BA Communication Research degree, magna cum laude in April 2014. As Chairperson of the CMC Student Council, Sebastian led the council to a centralized information dissemination system, comprehensive information metrics and a solid student involvement through the Affiliated Congress. She has also involved herself in various community projects like the Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid, a youth organization that provides education assistance to the underprivileged youth in Payatas; Got to Give (G2G) Leyte, a Christmas bazaar project for Typhoon Yolanda and Work of HeART, an art program for the underprivileged youth.

Yupingkun, a BS Industrial Engineering cum laude graduate, is an active member of the UP Career Assistance Program for Engineering Students (UP CAPES), a service organization that works hand-in-hand with the College of Engineering to produce competent and self-assured graduates. He spearheaded the idea of extending UP CAPES to other UP units starting with UP Los Baños. Yupingkun also involved himself in the Villamor Air Base Relief Operations as counselor to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

Both TOSP awardees were recipients of the 2014 Gawad Chanselor para sa Natatanging Mag-aaral.

Sebastian and Yupingkun were selected from the 30 national finalists from different universities all over the Philippines. Two other 2014 TOSP awardees are from UP Visayas, Jerry Ian Leonida and Frietz Arban Perales.
