Team Summit Equities of the UP Diliman Cesar E. A. Virata School of Business (VSB) was declared champion at the 18th CFA Institute Research Challenge Local Finals organized by the Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) Society Philippines.
The VSB team emerged as champion after delivering a compelling investment valuation of Cebu Air, Inc., and presented and defended their research during the question-and-answer portion before a panel of industry experts.
The team is composed of fourth year VSB students Robert Kelsey N. Amores, Mikko C. Apelo, Gabrielle George D. Cendaña, Ma. Sophia Kristina E. Espiritu, and Benjamin Ryan G. Ng. Their coach is Mikhael Anjelu B. Magana, assistant professor at the VSB and director of the undergraduate programs.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge (IRC) is a yearly worldwide competition that offers students practical guidance and rigorous training in financial analysis and ethics, while also assessing their skills in valuation, report writing, and presentations.
The 2026 CFA IRC local finals was held on Feb. 20 at the Wynwood Hotel in Pasig City. Team Summit Equities will represent the Philippines in the sub-regional final round to be held via online on March 12.
