The UP Men’s Football Team (UPMFT) is back in the finals of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 86 men’s football tournament.
The UPMFT will face the Far Eastern University Tamaraws on May 16 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The team defeated the University of Santo Tomas (UST), 8-7 via penalty shootout in their semifinals duel on May 9.
UPMFT’s Francis Tacardon first scored a goal in the 44th minute of the game, while UST’s TJ Garciano equalized the score in the 57th minute of the game. After the regulation time and extra time, the score stood at 1-1, sending the game into a penalty shootout.
During the shootout, with the score 7-7, UPMFT’s Angelo Pagdanganan’s kick found the back of the net while UST’s Francis Jay Vercide’s attempt hit the cross bar, causing the UPMFT’s win. Overjoyed, UP players and supporters alike barged into the field.
