The UP Cherubim and Seraphim (UPCS) turns 50 this year.

To celebrate its golden year, UP’s official children’s choir will hold a virtual concert, “Aurea Carmina” (Golden Songs) to be streamed live on its official Facebook page (@UP Cherubim & Seraphim) on September 25, 7 p.m.

It will feature songs by National Artist for Music Lucio San Pedro (“Sa Mahal Kong Bayan”), National Artist for Music Felipe Padilla de Leon (“Maligayang Bati”), National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab (“Nais Ko” and “Bata ang Bukas”), Eudenice Palaruan (“Sa Dakong Sikatan”), and Joey Ayala (“Manong Pawikan”), in fresh, new choral arrangements by Krina Cayabyab, Nhick Pacis, Phoebe Roa Pacleb, and UPCS alumna Annie Roque-Nepomuceno.

“Aurea Carmina” will have Ryan Cayabyab, Ayala, Pacleb, UPCS alumna Lynn Sherman, Solinda Bautista, Vikoy Bautista, Felicitas Cabildo, Luisa Dioquino, and Robin Rivera as special guest performers.

The UPCS will also be joined at the concert by singers representing five decades of  alumni.

Founded in 1971 by UP College of Music professor, Flora Zarco Rivera, the UPCS consists of 28 talented young artists (ages 7 to 16) drawn from UP Integrated School and UP Diliman’s (UPD) neighboring institutions.

The UPCS champions the development of a unique Filipino repertoire for children.

Regularly commissioning new works and drawing on its archives, the UPCS shares this repertoire with children nationwide.

It is currently led by its director emeritus, Elena Rivera Mirano, and associate conductor, Alyssa Liyana Dioquino.

UPCS is accompanied by pianists Celinda Guevarra and Michelle Nicolasora.

“Aurea Carmina” is sponsored by the UPD Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts. — with a report from UPCS
