Vice Chancellor for Research and Development Carl Michael F. Odulio in his message said, “The whole OVCRD, together with our partners in the various academic units in UPD, has prepared a lineup of exciting activities to showcase the fruits of our R&D [research and development] work. Furthermore, Saliksikhay aims to expand our culture of research with honor, excellence, and service.”

Meanwhile, UPD Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II in his video message welcomed everyone to Saliksikhay 2024, which he described as “a festival of critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and service to the nation through research.”

“As an opening program, Paliwanagan sa Diliman (Paliwanagan), represents our aspiration to mainstream culture of honor and excellence through research,” said Vistan.

Two more speeches were delivered prior to the lecture presentation. Faith Christian Cacnio, PhD, principal researcher at the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas Research Academy, shared her experience in doing research on financial literacy, while keynote speaker Reiner Mendoza, Dr.rer.nat., of the UPD Institute of Mathematics, talked about his journey as a mathematician and as a researcher, and the “problems he encountered while solving problems.”

Paliwangan served as an avenue for research and creative work dissemination and as a platform for conversations and dialogues on ideas, innovations, and trends. In talking about their experiences, presenters were able to share how to overcome setbacks and complications in research.
