(Nov. 5) – Eighty-eight new faculty members of UP Diliman acquired a better perspective of what it means to be an educator at the national university during the orientation held last Oct. 2 at the College of Engineering Auditorium.

The orientation welcomed the new mentors and provided them a better understanding of what are expected from them and what they can expect from the University. Topics discussed were academic policies and rules, faculty development and faculty-student relationship.

Aside from the prestige of teaching in UP, the new academics were also encouraged to avail of the opportunities available for their academic advancement. The new faculty members can study UPD graduate courses for free, submit research proposals for funding, publish their works in UPD’s refereed journals and even participate in international conferences as presenters or speakers. These privileges will help the new educators build their reputation in the country and the world.

The orientation is a regular activity of the Office of the Director of Instruction. This year, its Director, Dr. Violeda A. Umali, served as the master of ceremonies.

Among the officials at the program were UPD Chancellor Dr. Michael L. Tan, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Gisela P. Concepcion, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Benito M. Pacheco, Vice Chancellor for Research and Development Dr. Fidel R. Nemenzo, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Dr. Neil Martial R. Santillan and University Registrar Dr. Evangeline C. Amor.
