Likhaan: UP Institute of Creative Writing—Call for Papers

Likhaan: UP Institute of Creative Writing calls for submissions to the fourth cycle of the Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Writers Workshop. In light of the conferment of the title of National Artist for Theatre on Dr. Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio in 2018, this year’s workshop puts in focus the one-act play.

Emerging playwrights between 18-35 years old as of August 15, 2019 are invited to submit their works or works-in-progress for this year’s cycle. Submitted works should not have been previously published or performed in public. Any topic, theme, and theatre style is welcome, although the length of the work is ideally between 20 to 45 minutes when performed (for reference: conventionally, each page represents a minute or a minute and a half on stage, although this may adjust depending on the theater style). The language may be in English or Filipino; however, code-switching to regional languages within the script is allowed provided that translations are supplied for the readers.

The entry must be accompanied by a synopsis, a short bionote not more than 150 words, and the author’s photo. The author’s name must not appear anywhere on the submitted work. Email your complete portfolio to albww4@gmail.com on or before June 7, 2019.

The workshop is set for August 15 to 18, 2019. Accepted applicants will receive a modest stipend, as well as board and lodging at the workshop venue in Quezon City.
