SOLAIR holds AI symposium

Government guidelines and measures to address artificial intelligence (AI) were among the topics discussed at the symposium AI & the Future of Work: Navigating Opportunities & Challenges, hosted by the Center for Industry Productivity and Competitiveness of the UP Diliman School of Labor and Industrial Relations (SOLAIR) on March 25.

Conducted in partnership with industrial relations students under SOLAIR professor Virgel C. Binghay, PhD, the symposium featured Carmela I. Torres, undersecretary at the Department of Labor and Employment; Sean Darilay, talent and health solutions growth leader at the Mercer Philippines; and Nathan Samiley, deputy executive director of the Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Association of the Philippines.

The speakers also talked about AI’s implications for the workforce, latest studies on AI, skill enhancement in AI, as well as data analytics and AI ethics.

They were later joined by Aurélien Chu, chief executive officer of Eskwelabs, and Justine Paul Mercado, vice president for Luzon of the Security Bank Employees Union, for a panel discussion. They tackled the future of workplace and labor force issues in the light of AI.

Held at the SOLAIR Auditorium, the symposium was attended by human resource practitioners from the government and private sector, representatives from the labor groups, and information technology students.
