The UP Diliman (UPD) Quality Assurance Office (QAO) launched its inaugural three-day Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Writing Workshop on March 9 at UPD The Learning Commons.

QAO Director Evangeline C. Amor said the workshop aims to strengthen academic and administrative standards through global quality assurance practices. By building the capacity of participants and supporting academic units in refining their SARs, the office seeks to ensure that UPD academic programs remain relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of stakeholders.

Furthermore, it aimed to equip the participants with a structured-approach focused on addressing the requirements of each criterion in writing SARs.

Amelia Peralta Guevara, former Department of Science and Technology undersecretary, facilitated the first workshop.

“Based on my observations in reviewing SARs, many of them lack focus,” she said. She then emphasized the need for clearer and more concise discussions in writing the reports.

At the workshop, Guevara introduced the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance Programmed Framework (version 4). This framework establishes the foundation for a comprehensive exploration of the SAR writing process, and provided the participants with the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills to effectively write their reports.

The participants from the UPD Institute of Chemistry and UP Manila (UPM) College of Arts and Sciences Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics shared their insights about the integration of Bloom’s Taxonomy, program learning outcomes, course learning outcomes, lesson learning outcomes, and program objectives. Meanwhile, representatives from the UPD Department of Philosophy and UPM College of Nursing observed the writing workshop and further underscored its importance, as they sought to gain insights for future SAR writing endeavors.

The QAO will conduct two more writing workshops on March 16 and 23 to cover additional SAR criteria and components, ensuring reports are fully prepared for external quality assurance assessments. Workshop participants are expected to submit their finalized SARs for review at the end of May. –With reports from Andrei Milan A. Buena and Mikaela Cielo B.
