Still smarting from the passing of some of its beloved community members last August, the University once again woke to the news of another cherished faculty member and administrator—Grace C. Ramos, PhD, who passed away on Sept. 9.

Ramos served as dean of the UP Diliman (UPD) College of Architecture (CA) from 2020 to 2023, leading the college through a time of uncertainty, a time when the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the whole world. In their Facebook page, the CA describes her as an “esteemed colleague whose guidance and unwavering dedication left a lasting mark on the Architecture community.”
Prior to her deanship, Ramos was college secretary from 1999 to 2002. The Office of International Linkages Diliman (OILD) also expressed its sympathies to Ramos’s family, colleagues, and loved ones through their Facebook post.
The OILD post states that Ramos served as program development associate of the UPD Office of Extension Coordination from 2014 to 2016, prior to becoming OILD’s first director.
“Her leadership and dedication laid the foundation for the office’s mission of fostering global academic partnerships,” OILD posted.
Ramos earned her PhD in city planning in 2011 from the Seoul National University, her MSc urban development planning in 1992 from the University College London, and her BS in architecture from UP [date not indicated].
She first joined the University as a lecturer in June 1994 and became a regular faculty as an instructor in November 1997. She received her permanent status as assistant professor on 27 Sept. 2001, and was promoted full professor on 1 Jan. 2014.
The CA will announce details of her wake at a later date. She is terribly missed, and the University thanks her for her dedication to her craft and excellent service.—With a Report from Anna Regidor, UPD Information Office
