(SEPT. 1)—UP Diliman Chancellor Michael L. Tan’s article “Child rights and WCST” published in his column “Pinoy Kasi” is this year’s Outstanding Published Column Article on Youth and Education in a Nationally Circulated Publication as recognized by The Lasallian Scholarum Awards (TLSA).
Tan’s article on minors’ rights and webcam child sex tourism published last Jan. 28, bested 81 articles in the category, 10 of which were shortlisted for the award bearing this year’s theme, “Shift Happens: Advocating change for youth and education.”
Judges for this year’s awards are Senator Juan Edgardo M. Angara, former Representative Lorna Verano, filmmaker Pepe Diokno, De La Salle University (DLSU) University Student Government President Carlo Inocencio and DLSU Office for Strategic Communications Executive Director Jose Mari Magpayo.
At the awarding ceremonies today at the Makati Shangri-la, Tan, represented by UPD Information Office Director Sir Anril P. Tiatco, received a cash prize and a sculpture by Daniel dela Cruz.
Now on its 11th year, the TLSA is an annual recognition for outstanding media coverage of Filipino youth and education issues by print, photo, online, broadcast and campus journalists, sponsored by the Office for Strategic Communications of De La Salle University.
